The Oktoberfest will start with the tapping of a beer barrel that will signal the fact that the festival is officially starting. The one who will engage into tapping the beer barrel is the mayor of the city himself. He will get a very nice hammer that will be used to have the barrel tapped. The ceremony will also be marked by some ceremonial words that are “O’ zapft is!” and what they basically mean in English is that the beer barrel has been tapped.

Also, the tradition of the Oktoberfest says that the 1st mug of beer will need to be offered to the Prime Minister.
