Common Hazards In Lineman Jobs

Due to their nature the lineman jobs have very many risks. The risks could result injuries from mild to fatal ones; if the safety precautions are not well adhered to. These jobs involve electricity; this is a human hazard especially if one is exposed to it. High voltages of electricity are fatal and can cause severe damage to lives and property. Reckless handling of electricity can result to electrocution and fires. All preventive measures must be followed at all the time.

Most of the transmission wire or cables are erected several meters from the ground. This creates a risk to the linemen servicing it due to the height need to be climbed. A fall from an electric post can lead to physical incapacitation. The lineman may be crippled for the rest of his life or even succumb to the injuries. Proper clothing and climbing equipment must be provided to reduce the rate of accidents in the lineman jobs.

Weather is another hazard that affects the apprentice lineman jobs. Wet conditions allow the electric current to leak uncontrollably. If the lineman has to work under severe weather conditions great care should be taken to prevent accidents such as falling and electrocution due to moisture. Heavy storms can also pull down the electricity line making them fall on the linemen. Except in very crucial situations working in wet conditions should be avoided at all costs.

Travel accidents also affect the lineman jobs. The linemen are compelled to travel a lot and for long distances thus road accidents affect them. To reduce the road carnage on their staff the company must provide good transportation. The vehicles must be in excellent conditions and be driven by reputable drivers.
